A certain mass of gas occupies a volume of 300 c.c. at 27C and 620 mm pressure. The volume of this gas at \[\text{47}{{\,}^{\text{o}}}\text{C}\] and 640 mm pressure will be

    A)  400 c.c.

    B)         510 c.c.

    C)         310 c.c.

    D)         350 c.c.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Given initial volume \[({{V}_{1}})=300\,c.c;\] initial temperature \[({{T}_{1}})=27{{\,}^{o}}C=300K\] intial pressure \[({{P}_{1}})=620\,mm,\] final temperature \[({{T}_{2}})=47{{\,}^{o}}C=320\,K\] and final pressure \[({{P}_{2}})=640\,mm.\]We Know from the general gas equation: \[\frac{{{P}_{1}}{{V}_{1}}}{{{T}_{1}}}=\frac{{{P}_{2}}{{V}_{2}}}{{{T}_{2}}}\] \[=\frac{620\times 300}{300}=\frac{640\times {{V}_{2}}}{320}\]                 \[=310\,c.c.\]  (where \[{{\text{V}}_{\text{2}}}\]is the final volume of the. gas)
