A) shoot apex
B) root apex
C) both (a) and (b)
D) meristematic tissue
Correct Answer: B
Solution :
Clowes (1961) by autoradiographic studies of DNA synthesis found a reservior of cells having low DNA, RNA and protein concentration in the root apex and named it as quiescent centre. These cells do not divide but may become active. Shoot apex is terminal in position and shows rhythmic change in size. Quiescent centre is absent in shoot apex. Those regions which show active cell division or become active in response to some stimulus are termed as meristems and such tissue as meristametic tissue. You need to login to perform this action.
