    All elements found in plant are not essential for its growth and life cycle. There are two types of nutrients on the basis of their amount. (i) Macronutrients: The elements which required in major amount are called macronutrient eg, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S etc. (ii) Micronutrients: The elements which required in small or trace amount are called micronutrient eg, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Mo, B and Cl. Both macronutrient and micronutrient are important for plant but in different amounts.
