Term basal body is associated with the development of

    A) cilia and flagella

    B) cell plate

    C)        phragmoplast

    D)        kinetochore

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The basal bodies become aligned in rows beneath the apical plasma membrane and each basal body may than produce cilia or flagella. The formation of cilia started by the formation of a vesicle like structure of the cytoplasm towards the distal end of basal body. Phragmoplast is a barrel-shaped or disc-like region formed in the equator during cytokinesis. Cell plate is formed by the fusion of Golgi derived vesicles containing cell wall precursors (pectin) and the microtubule during cytokinesis in higher plants. Kinetochore is disc shaped structure found in centromere and contain specific DNA sequences with special proteins bound to them.
