The emissive power of a black body, is proportional to (T = absolute temperature)

    A) \[E\propto {{T}^{0}}\]

    B)                                        \[E\propto {{T}^{2}}\]

    C) \[E\propto {{T}^{4}}\]

    D) \[E\propto {{T}^{5}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

From Stefans law the total radiant energy (E) emitted per second per unit surface area of a black body is proportional to the fourth power of the absolute temperature (T) of the body ie.        \[E=\sigma {{T}^{4}}\]or \[E\propto {{T}^{4}}\] where \[\sigma \] is Stefans constant. Note: As the temperature of a surface rises, more and more radiant energy is emitted by it.
