When high energetic cathode rays strike a heavy target of high melting point, then the rays produced are

    A) X-rays

    B)                        y-rays

    C) x-rays

    D)        p-rays

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Professor Rontgen observered that when fast moving cathode rays strike a metal piece of high atomic weight and high melting point, a new kind of rays are produced. These rays are invisible to eye, but affect photographic plate in the same way as do light rays. He named these rays X-rays. While \[\alpha ,\beta ,\gamma \]rays are produced due to nuclear phenomenon of radioactivity.
