Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: The torque on the coil is maximum, when coil is suspended in a radial magnetic field. Reason: The torque tends to rotate the coil about its own axis.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.

    B)         If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C)         If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D)         If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The torque on the coil is given by \[\tau =nIBA\,\cos \theta \] when the magnetic field is radial then coil is set with its plane parallel to magnetic field, ie, \[\theta =0.\] Hence,        \[\cos \theta =1\]                                 \[{{\tau }_{\max }}=nIBA\times 1=nIBA\]
