Food and air pathway are divided at

    A) pharynx

    B)        larynx

    C) oesophagus

    D)        glottis

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Due to the formation of secondary palate and consequent separation of long nasal passages from buccal cavity, the internal nares in rabbit open far back into the pharyngeal cavity which is, thus the region where nasal passages and buccal cavity merge. The uvula divides the pharyngeal cavity into dorsal nasopharynx and ventral oropharynx. Internal nares open into nasopharynx. The oropharynx is continuous with the buccal cavity and contains the pharyngeal part of the tongue. Each lateral wall of nasopharynx has a slit-like opening of an Eustachian tube which connects the nasopharynx with the cavity of middle ear of its side. Each lateral wall of oropharynx bears cell lymphoid node called tonsil.
