Pollination in Cycas takes place by

    A)                 water

    B) wind

    C) insects

    D) bats

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The microspores of Cycas are light and dry. They are liberated and carried by the wind to the ovule. The pollination by wind is called anemophily. Pollination by water is known as hydrophily. All aquatic plants are not hydrophilous, eg, Potamogeton, Myriophyllum are anemophilous whereas Alisma, lotus are entomophilous. When pollination is brought about by the agency of insects, it is known as entomophily. The insects pollinated flowers are brightly coloured and produce nectar, eg, Salvia.
