Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion The ratio of inertial mass to gravitational mass is equal to one. Reason The inertial mass and gravitational mass of a body are equivalent.

    A)  If the Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Inertial mass and gravitational mass are equivalent. Both are scalar quantities and measured in the same unit. They are quite different in the method of their measurement. Also gravitational mass of a body is affected by the presence of other bodies near it where as internal mass remain unaffected.
