The radius of hydorgen atom is \[0.53\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] The radius of \[{{\,}_{\text{3}}}\text{L}{{\text{i}}^{\text{2+}}}\] is of:

    A)  \[1.27\text{ }\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\]

    B)  \[0.17\text{ }\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\]

    C)  \[0.57\text{ }\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\]

    D)  \[0.99\text{ }\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The radius of hydrogen atom \[=0.53\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] \[{{\,}_{\text{3}}}\text{L}{{\text{i}}^{\text{+2}}}\] ion also has only one electron but it has 3 protons in nucleus, hence its electron fells three times more attraction from nucleus in comparison of hydrogen atom. Thus, the radius of \[{{\,}_{\text{3}}}\text{L}{{\text{i}}^{\text{+2}}}\] will be\[=\frac{0.53}{3}=0.17\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\]
