In the Youngs double slit experiment, the central maxima is observed to be \[{{\text{I}}_{\text{0}}}\text{.}\]If one of the slits is covered, then the intensity at the central maxima will become

    A)  \[\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{2}\]

    B)  \[\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    C)  \[\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{4}\]

    D)  \[{{I}_{0}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                     Intensity, \[{{I}_{0}}={{I}_{1}}+{{I}_{2}}2\sqrt{{{I}_{1}}{{I}_{2}}}\] If \[{{I}_{1}}={{I}_{2}}=I\](Let) then \[{{I}_{0}}=4I\] When one slit is covered then  \[{{I}_{2}}=0.\] \[\therefore \]  \[I{{}_{0}}=I\]\[=\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{4}\]
