  • question_answer
Blackened oil painting can be restored into original form by the action of

    A)  \[\text{C}{{\text{l}}_{2}}\]

    B)  \[Ba{{O}_{2}}\]

    C)  \[{{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}\]

    D)  \[Mn{{O}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The lead of oil paintings gets converted into lead sulphide by atmospheric \[{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\text{S}\]leading to blackening of paintings. Hydrogen peroxide \[({{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}})\] oxidises the black lead sulphide into white lead sulphate, thus restores the colour of oil paintings.
