What is meant by Chelate effect? Given an example.

    Answer:

When a polydentate ligand forms a coordination complex having a ring structure, it is called chelate complex. A chelate complex is always more stable than the complex formed by monodentate ligands. The stabilisation of coordination compound due to chelation is called the chelate effect. e.g. [Cu(en)2] 2+
