  • question_answer 13)
Define the term solution. How many types of solutions are formed? Write briefly about each kind of solution with an example.

    Answer:

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more than two chemically non-reacting substances whose composition can be varied within certain limits. The substances which make up the solution are called its components. The solution which is made up of two components is referred as binary solution. Types of solutions. For the sake of simplicity, we shall confine our discussion to binary solutions only. Various types of solutions depending upon the physical states of different components are listed below.
    Type of Solution Common Example
    Gaseous Solutions
Gas in gas a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen gases
Liquid in Gas chloroform vapours mixed with nitrogen gas
Solid in Gas camphor vapours in nitrogen gas
    Liquid Solutions
Gas in liquid        Liquid in liquid Solid in liquid oxygen dissolved in water ethanol dissolved in water sucrose dissolved in water
