*        Correct Postures While Using Computers

Effective Ergonomics (The science concerned with designing safe and comfortable machines for humans.) can keep our bodies healthy and pain-free when using the computer for a long period of time. Correct postures play a large role hence we should follow the good habits when we use the computer.

* Do's and Don'ts

* Some of the computer's Do's and Don'ts are the following:

  • We should sit up straight in front of the computer. Improper sitting may result in back ache and eye sight problems.
  • Make sure that your fingers are relaxed while typing and using a mouse. Use a gentle touch on the keyboard instead of pounding the keys forcefully.
  • Adjust your seat before the computer table in such a way that the monitor is at a distance of at least twenty inches from your eyes.
  • Grasp the mouse gently and avoid holding a pen or anything else in your hands while you type or use the mouse.
  • Open the legs of the keyboard to give it a slight slope and use it comfortably.
  • Keep the keyboard at a level so that arms do not bend upwards. Your wrists should be in line with your arms, else it can cause strain to your fingers. The long use of the keyboard is clearly one cause of injuries like RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, hence special care is needed when pressing the keys.
  • Ensure that the keys of the keyboard are not stiff due to constant use. If these keys are stiff, then you will have to use greater force to press the keys. This will strain your fingers and wrists
  • Let your wrists rest on the desk. Use a wrist-pad that lies properly on the desk.
  • Doctors recommend that after every hour of work, you should close your eyes for at least 10 minutes. Every now-and-then you should simply look away from the screen and re-focus on something else for a few seconds. It's also a very good idea to simply take a brief break every hour or so and then continue work.
