per capita income growth and not much reduction in poverty.
(ii) Since the eighties, India's economic growth has been one of the
fastest in the world.
(iii) The growth rate jumped from an average of about 3.5 per
cent a year in the 1970s to about 6 per cent.
(iv) Higher growth rates have helped significantly in the
reduction of poverty.
