A batsman has a certain average of runs for 12 innings. In the 13th inning he scores 96 runs thereby increasing his average by 5 runs. What will be his average after 13th inning? [SSC CGL Tier II, 2017]

    A) 28

    B) 32

    C) 36

    D) 42

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    [c] Let average runs for 12 innings \[=x\] Then, total runs for 12 innings \[=12x\] In the 13th inning he scored \[=96\] Now, according to the question, \[x+5=\frac{12x+96}{13}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[13x+65=12x+96\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[13x-12x=96-65\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=31\] \[\therefore \] Average runs after 13th inning \[=31+5=36\]
