In a 140 L of mixture of milk and water, percentage of water is only 30%. The milkman gave 20 L of this mixture to a customer. Then, he added equal quantities of pure milk and water 'to the remaining mixture. As a result the respective ratio of milk and water in the mixture became 2: 1. What was the quantity of milk added? |
A) 12 L
B) 16 L
C) 18 L
D) 8 L
E) 10 L
Correct Answer: A
Solution :
After giving customer, rest mixture |
\[=140-20=120\,L\] |
Now, water in 120 L mixture |
\[=120\times \frac{30}{100}=36\,L\] |
Milk in 120 L mixture \[=120-36=84\,L\] |
Let milkman added milk and water be x L. |
According to the question, |
\[\frac{84+x}{36+x}=\frac{2}{1}\] |
\[\Rightarrow \] \[84+x=72+2x\] |
\[\Rightarrow \] \[2x-x=84-72\] |
\[\Rightarrow \] \[x=12\] |
Hence, milkman added 12 L milk. |
