If \[(2x+3):(5x-38)\] be the duplicate ratio of \[\sqrt{5}:\sqrt{6},\] then x is equal to

    A) 12

    B) 14

    C) 15

    D) 16

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Since, \[(2x+3):\text{(}5x-38\text{)}\] is the duplicate ratio of \[\sqrt{5}:\sqrt{6},\] therefore \[\frac{2x+3}{5x-38}={{\left( \frac{\sqrt{5}}{\sqrt{6}} \right)}^{2}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{2x+3}{5x-38}=\frac{5}{6}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[6(2x+3)=5(5x-38)\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[12x+18=25x-190\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[13x=208\]             \[x=16\]
