  • question_answer
We have a source of red light and a blue light of same power. Then the red light gives photons per second :

    A)  less in number and of less energy

    B)  more in number and of more energy

    C)  same in number but of less energy

    D)  more in number but of less energy

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

We know that the relation, the energy of a photon is inversely proportional to the wavelength (or proportional to frequency) by Planck law \[E=hv=\frac{hc}{\lambda }.\] Therefore, blue light gives photon of more energy. If P is the power of the source and \[n\] is the number of photon emitted per second. We know that \[nhv=P.\] Thus \[nhv\] is constant. The number of photon is more for light of less frequency for example red. Therefore red light gives photons of less energy but more in number.
