12th Class Chemistry Amines

  • question_answer 22)
Write the reactions of (i) aromatic and (ii) aliphaticprimary amines with nitrous acid. Diazonium salts are formed, but alkyl amities form unstable diazoniumsalts which decompose to produce alcohol.

    Answer:

    (i) Aromatic primary amines react with nitrous acid at low temperatures (273-278 K) to form diazoniumsalts.                                 Note Nitrous add is produced by the reaction of  and (ii) Aliphatic primary amines react with nitrous acid to form aliphaticdiazonium salts (unstable), which produce nitrogen gas andalcohols after decomposition.
