The 16th Federation Cup Junior National athletics championship has begun in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.Over 800 athletes from 32 states across the country will take part in this tournament. The meet will serve as the selections trials for the 18th Asian Junior Athletic Meet to be held at Gifu, Japan, in June. The three-day event will see 440 boys and 352 girls in the age group of 16 to 20 years take part in 44 events. |

The Commonwealth countries have unanimously agreed to take action on cybersecurity by 2020. In a landmark declaration at the end of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London, the leaders of 53 countries agreed to work closely to evaluate and strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks and response mechanisms. A release issued, termed the declaration as the world's largest and most geographically diverse inter-governmental commitment on cybersecurity cooperation. It followed an announcement by the UK government pledging up to 15 million pounds to help the Commonwealth nations strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities. |

'Son of Dreams' was unveiled as official Mascot of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China. The selection of Son of Dreams as China 2019's Official Mascot was the culmination of a unique process by FIBA. The mascot finalists were Chinese dragon ('Son of Dream'), a Siberian tiger ('Speed Tiger') and a lion ('Qiu Qiu'). For the first time, there are 32-team in FIBA Basketball World Cup. The tournament will take place in eight Chinese cities from August 31 until September 15. |

The Union Government formed a new integrated institutional mechanism, Defence Planning Committee (DPC) to reform the process of higher defence planning. The permanent body would be chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The committee is aimed at driving the country’s military and national security strategy, draft capability development plans and guide and accelerate defence equipment acquisitions. The Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman of the Chief of the Staff Committee (CISC) will be the member secretary of the committee. |

Swaziland’s King Mswati III, Africa’s last absolute monarch, officially changed the name of his country to the ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’. Accordingly, the country, a member of the Commonwealth, will now be known by its historic name of eSwatini. The announcement was made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the King’s 50th birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of Swazi’s independence from British colonial rule. |
