An Artificial Intelligence enabled robot “CAPTAIN ARJUN” has been launched by the Indian Railways’ Central Railway zone. The AI robot has been launched to intensify the screening of passengers and surveillance to keep a watch on anti-social elements. The above objectives will be achieved with the help of motion sensor, one PTZ camera and one Dome Camera installed on the robot. It also comprises sensor-based sanitizer as well as mask dispenser. The Cameras installed on the CAPTAIN ARJUN uses Artificial Intelligence algorithms to track suspicious and antisocial activity. It also comprises of inbuilt siren, motion activated spotlight along with an in-built internal storage in order to record in case of a network failure. The robot undertake the thermal screening of passengers and captures the temperature in a digital display panel. It also sounds an abnormal automatic alarm indicating a higher temperature than reference range. Hence, Captain ARJUN will provide enough protective cover to the passengers while undergoing the screening and also ensure security in the railway premises.
 

 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Guwahati has developed an application called “Flyzy” for consistent and contactless air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The point of the versatile application Flyzy, created according to International Air Transport Association (IATA) rules, is to give contactless loading up, remembering the simpler stuff drop, reasonable stopping, better shopping experience and giving important updates during the entire excursion. The application will direct them all together and furnish them with a simple comprehension and usage of a few air terminal capacities.

 Defence Institute of Advanced Technology(DIAT) has developed “ANANYA” water-based disinfectant spray with nanotechnology assisted formulation. This spray can be used by anyone, from a common man to a healthcare worker, for the individual as well as large scale use. This spray can be used on masks, PPEs, hospital linens, as well as other likely contaminated surfaces such as medical instruments, elevator buttons, doorknobs, corridors and rooms. This formulation adheres very effectively to fabric, plastic and metallic objects, and its toxicity to humans is negligible. The shelf life of the spray is said to be more than 6 months.

 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the cyclonic storm Nisarga, which has turned into a depression in the Arabian Sea, will hit Maharashtra and Gujarat on June 3. At the moment, the storm is brewing in the Arabian sea near Lakshadweep. This cyclonic storm could be the first tropical cyclone in 129 years to hit Maharashtra in the month of June. Cyclone Nisarga will bring strong winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall to coastal Maharashtra and Gujarat.

 A Video Blogging Contest titled “My Life My Yoga” (also called “Jeevan Yoga”) has been launched by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The contest was launched by PM Modi during the course of his monthly Mann Ki Baat address to the nation. The contest is a joint effort by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). “My Life My Yoga” Video Blogging Contest aims on the transformative impact that Yoga have on the lives of individuals and intend to raise awareness about Yoga among the people worldwide. Hence, the contest is open to all participants across the world. The participants will be able to submit their entries via various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

 On March 8, 2020, Minister of Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar announced that more than 17 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs) are to be developed by 2022. Currently, there are more than 60 lakh self help groups in the country mobilizing 6 crore women.

The Self-Help Groups will be provided funds for their livelihood missions. They will be linked with banks for easy credit flow. The platforms such as E-Marketplace will also be linked with the SHGs to provide better prices for their products.
  • Self Help Groups
The concept of Self-Help Groups was introduced in 1992 under the guidelines of RBI and NABARD. Today, more than 90% of SHGs in the country consist of women.
  • Why SHGs?
The SHGs help to promote Gender Equity, Social Integrity, Financial Inclusion and help raise voice of marginalized section. It also helps to improve efficiency of Government Schemes. The “Kudumbashree” project in Kerala is the largest and most successful SHG project in the country that was launched in Kerala. It is a SHG of the State Government. It was launched in 1998.

 On March 6, 2020, Ghojadanga of West Bengal and Agartala of Tripura were designated as land immigration check posts. They are located in Indo-Bangladesh border.

The Government of India has designated Agartala and Ghojadanga to check all classes of passengers entering to and exiting from India. The immigration posts will check travel documents of the passengers.

Bangladesh is one of the strongest trading partners of India. Today, the trade between the countries stand at 10 billion USD. Also, Bangladesh is the largest contributor of tourism to India. Also, the visas issued by Indian high commission in Bangladesh is the highest of all the Indian missions. It issues more than 1 million visas annually.

 On March 7, 2020, India officially shared two SARS-CoV-2 with the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID).

The Pune based National Institute of Virology has shared two sequences of novel corona virus with Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data. It is important to study the genome sequences of the virus as it will help in epidemiological investigations. These include how the virus spreads and where the virus has come from, etc.

  • Corona Virus update
More than 100,000 are infected globally due to Corona Virus and spread across 90 countries. Around 31 people are currently infected with Corona Virus. It includes 16 Italian nationals as well. India has so far imposed travel restrictions to Iran, Italy and South Korea. Also, India has suspended issue of e-visas to Italy, Japan, Iran and South Korea.

It provides performance and sport-inspired lifestyle products in various games ranging from football, running and training, basketball, golf to motorsports.

  The District Employment and Counseling Centre has organized a Workshop-cum-Awareness Programme on the Skill Development for Unorganized Workers. Awareness workshop for the unorganized workers was organized under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PMSYM) Scheme. The workshop was held in Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The participants were made aware of the various pension schemes run by the government such as Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan (PM- SYM) and Pradhan Mantri Laghu Vyapari Mandhan (Karam Yogi) Pension Yojana (PM-LVMY).
