  Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has become the third Indian to register a hat-trick in Test cricket. He took 3 wickets in 3 successive balls in the 2nd test against West Indies, held in Kingston, Jamaica. He dismissed Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase to claim the hat trick. This was the third test hat-trick by an Indian bowler after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan.

Charles Leclerc won the Belgian Grand Prix after defeating Lewis Hamilton by less than a second. The tournament was held at the Spa-Francorchamps track. This was his first victory of his Formula One career. It was also Ferrari’s first win this year.

  A convincing India U-15 team thrashed Nepal 7-0 to lift the SAFF U-15 title at the Kalyani Stadium in Kolkata. Striker Sridarth Nongmeikapam scored a hat-trick while Maheson Singh, Amandeep, Sibajit Singh and Himanshu Jangra scored one goal apiece. The victory also meant that India is now the most successful team in the tournament’s history. They won the title for a record third time after previous wins in 2013 and 2017, both of which came in Nepal.

  Indian sprinter VK Vismaya clinch the gold medal in the 400m run at the International Athletic Meeting – Josef Seckar Memorial (MJS) in Brno, Czech Republic. She produced her personal best timing of 52.12s to clinch the gold medal.

  Liverpool Football player Virgil van Dijk has won UEFA’s Player of the Year award. He was beating Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, while England footballer Lucy Bronze taking the Women’s Player of the Year award. UEFA also handed out positional awards for male players, with Van Dijk for Champions League Defender of the Season.

   Ajantha Mendis, the mystery spinner from Sri Lanka, has announced his retirementfrom all forms of cricket. Mendis played 19 Tests, 87 One-Day Internationals and 39 T20Is for Sri Lanka, taking 70 Test wickets, 152 ODI wickets and 66 T20I wickets. Mendis was renowned in the cricketing world for his ‘carrom ball’ and various other variations. He last played for Sri Lanka in 2015. He is best remembered for his 6/13 in the Asia Cup Final in 2008.

  West Indies pacer Cecil Wright has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket at the ripe old age of 85. Wright made his first-class debut for Jamaica against a Barbados side which had legends Wes Hall and Sir Garfield Sobers. The 85-year-old claims to have played over two million games taking over 7,000 wickets in professional cricket. Wright’s longest purple patch span five seasons as he ended up taking as many as 538 wickets in five seasons.

  Indian team created history by winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the world’s biggest international vocational skill competition, 45th WorldSkills Kazan 2019, Russia. S Aswatha Narayana won the gold medal in water technology, Pranav Nutalapati won a silver medal in web technologies, Sanjoy Pramanik and Shweta Ratanpura won one bronze medal each in Jewellery and graphic design technology.

 Padma Shri Awardee, Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player. She was born on July 5, 1995, in Hyderabad. Her father PV Ramana and mother P. Vijaya are former Indian Volleyball Players. P.V. Ramana was also awarded the Arjuna Award in 2000 for his contribution to the sports in India. She started playing badminton at the age of 8 years and joined Pullela Gopichand’s Badminton Academy. Sindhu’s game was initially recognized during the 5th Servo All India ranking championship in the under-10 category. Later, she won the doubles titles at the Sub-Junior Nationals and the All India Ranking in Pune in the Under-13 Category. Sindhu made her International debut in 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton championship held in Colombo and won the bronze medal. She defeated Singapore’s Gu Juan to won the Malaysian Open title which was her first Grand Prix in 2013 and also became the first Indian women’s singles player to win a medal at the Badminton World championship. In 2013, she was presented with the Arjuna Award, which is one of the highest honours for any sportspersons in India.
Going ahead in her international career, she won successive women’s singles titles at the Macau Open Grand Prix in the year 2015 and was honoured with India’s 4th highest civilian honour “The Padma Shri Award”. In Rio Olympics 2016, she made her country proud after becoming the first athlete from India to win the silver medal at Olympics, as she lost the finals against the Spanish badminton star Carolina Marin. Later in year 2017, Sindhu went on to win the Indian Open Super Series after defeating Rio Olympics gold medallist Carolina Marin. She further went on to win a silver medal at the BWF World Championships in the same year. After reaching the final of the 2018 World Championships, she became the first shuttler in the world to reach the finals of three successive major events. Later in 2018, she was appointed as the Deputy Collector by the Andhra Pradesh government. But, in 2019’s BWF World Championships, she created history and become the first Indian shuttler to win the title. She defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara with 21-7, 21-7 to win the elusive gold in her 3rd successive final. Sindhu has made her country feel proud and will continue to do so.
