 A new fish species named as “Schizothorax sikusirumensis” has been discovered in Arunachal Pradesh. The new fish species was discovered by Dr. Keshav Kumar Jha. He is an Associate Professor & Head of Department of Zoology, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat. He discovered a new fish species from genus Schizothorax. Fish species “Schizothorax sikusirumensis” was discovered near Gakang area under Mebo circle of East Siang District, at the confluence of River Siku and Sirum. It inhabits the water logged area of torrential river drainage. Its name has been derived from the name of the rivers Siku and Sirum.

 A unique project to produce Neera and Palmgur has been rolled out by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in Palghar district of Maharashtra. The KVIC launched project aims to promoting Neera as a substitute to soft drinks along with generating self-employment opportunities for Adivasis as well as traditional trappers. Indian state Maharashtra is home to more than 50 lakh palm trees. As a part of project, KVIC distributed tool kits to local artisans for extraction of Neera and making palmgur. The tool kit comprised of canteen burners, perforated moulds, food grade stainless steel Kadhai, along with other equipment namely knives, rope and axes. Neera is a nutrient-rich health drink consumed in many Indian states, and is extracted from the palm trees before sunrise.

  Uttar Pradesh has become the top state in India to provide employment to the workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). According to the data released, 57 lakh 12975 workers got employment is around 57 thousand village panchayats of the state which is 18% of the total work generated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the country. The state government has generated 7.93 crore man-days and the government will provide jobs to 10 lakh more workers.

“Ghar Ghar Nigrani” mobile application has been launched by the Punjab government to check the community spread of COVID-19 in the state of Punjab. Under this initiative, state will undertake house to house surveillance in the state, covering the entire rural and urban population of Punjab above 30 years of age and will also cover persons below the age of 30 having co-morbidity or Influenza like Illness/Severe Acute Respiratory Illness until the elimination of the COVID-19 pandemic. The mobile application “Ghar Ghar Nigrani”, developed and designed in-house by the Health Department, will act as a tool for early detection as well as testing of the people for the novel coronavirus in order to prevent its community spread.
 

State of the art flood warning system “iFLOWS” has been launched in Mumbai. The flood warning system was launched by Union Earth Sciences Minister Harsh Vardhan along with Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. I-FLOWS consists of seven modules: Data Assimilation, Flood, Inundation, Vulnerability, Risk, Dissemination Module and Decision Support System. The recently launched system “iFLOWS” will enable Mumbai to predict floods three days before they happen. As a result, administration will be able to save property as well as lives from the flood. Now, the city will become more resilient with the launch of system as it will provide early signs of the forthcoming danger during high rainfall and cyclone events.
 

 West Bengal government has received a loan amount of Rs 1950 crore from the World Bank. The loan amount has been lend to the West Bengal Government to tackle COVID-19 situation and developmental work in the state. Out of the total amount of Rs 1950 crore, West Bengal Government will spend Rs. 850 crore on various Social-Welfare schemes while the remaining Rs 1,100 crore will be spent to create Industrial infrastructures.

 Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has started Street Vendor Registration Portal http://www.mpurban.gov.in/ and “Mukhyamantri Shahri Path Vyavsayi Utthan Yojana” and transferred Rs 300 crore to urban local bodies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi for starting Pradhan Mantri Path Vikreta Aatmanirbhar Nidhi Karyakram along with this Shehri Path Vyavasayi Utthan Yojana will commence in order to benefit the state’s urban businessmen under which small businessmen or vendors will be given Rs 10,000 in the form of working capital. The current COVID-19 situation, for development purposes, the Government has provided Rs 1,555 crore to 22,800 Gram Panchayats.

  The state cabinet of Odisha has adopted “Bande Utklala Janani” or Glory to mother Utkala as the anthem of Odisha through video-conferencing. The anthem has been written by Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra in 1912. In 1994 the Assembly of Odisha was set on to sing “Bande Utkala Janani” at the end of every session and considered to make it the anthem of the state. The song reflects the glory and natural beauty of Odisha.

 Gairsain in Chamoli district has been formally declared as the summer capital of Uttarakhand. The announcement was made after the assent from the governor Baby Rani Maurya was received in order to declare Gairsain the summer capital of Uttarakhand. Also, the declaration of a summer capital in the region is expected to expedite the development of the hilly areas. Earlier in March 2020, during the budget session of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat made the announcement about Gairsain being made the summer capital of Uttarakhand. He dedicated the summer capital status to Gairsain to thousands of men and women of Uttarakhand who fought for its statehood. Gairsain is a tehsil in Chamoli district which is located about 270-km from existing temporary capital of Dehradun.

 Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh has inaugurated “Plant Health Clinic” at the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Imphal. The aim to open the clinic is to boost the economic growth of Manipur through agriculture and horticulture. Along with the clinic, the Chief Minister also launched a mobile soil testing laboratory van. The state government has decided to give more emphasis on agriculture and horticulture sectors in this hour of the pandemic COVID-19. The initiative taken up by the department to set up such a plant clinic will provide plant health diagnostic services to farmers.
