 On February 9, 2020, Kaamya Karthikeyan became the youngest girl to climb the highest peak in South America, Mt Aconcagua.

Kaamya Karthikeyan is a Class VII student studying in Navy Children School. She has set the record of become the youngest in the world to summit the highest peak of the Andes Mountain Range, Mt Aconcagua. She has also summited Mt Mentok Kangri II in August 2019.She started mountaineering at the  age of 3 with basic treks in Lonavala. When she was 9 years old, she had completed several high-altitude treks in the Himalayan region. She is also the youngest mountaineer to summit Mt Everest. By 2021, she aims to complete “Explorers Grand Slam”

It is an adventurer goal to summit 7 highest peaks of the world and also to reach North Pole and South Pole. The seven summits include Mt Everest, Denali, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Vinson and two other highest mountain peaks chosen by the designates.

 Renowned thinker, writer and the founder-director of Bharatiya Vichara Kendram P Parameswaran has passed away in Ottapalam, Kerala. He was 91. Kendram P Parameswaran was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2018 and Padma Shri in 2004. P Parameswaran was one of the senior-most Pracharaks of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, RSS and former leader of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

  Indian Army has developed first bulletproof helmet of the world which can stop an AK-47 bullet round fired from a distance of 10 meters. The Ballistic helmet is developed by An Indian Army Major Anoop Mishra. The helmet is developed under the Indian Army’s project “Abhedya“. Major Anoop Mishra has also developed a full-body protection bulletproof jacket which can withstand even sniper rifles. He is a part of the Indian Army’s College of Military Engineering. He started developing the bulletproof jackets when he received gunshots on his vintage bulletproof jacket. Along with bulletproof helmet, India’s first and world’s cheapest gunshot locator ‘Parth’  has been developed by Indian Army’s College of Military Engineering in partnership with a private firm. The gunshot locator can locate the bullet’s exact location from the distance of 400 meters. This locator will help the Indian Army personnel to easily locate and neutralise the terrorists. The College of Military Engineering (CME) is based in Pune. It is a premier tactical & Technical training institution and responsible for the training of personnel of the Corps of Engineers. It also imparts instructions in Works Services, Combat Engineering, CBRN Protection and GIS matters to the personnel of All Arms & Services.

  The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has decided to increase the minimum net worth criterion for pension fund managers. The minimum net worth criterion for pension fund managers has been increased from Rs 25 crore to Rs 50 crore. This enhancement in the minimum net worth criterion for pension fund managers will bring pension funds on par with mutual funds which have to meet a minimum net worth requirement of Rs 50 crores as per Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) rules. The fresh guidelines states that the licenses issued to the pension fund managers will remain valid until cancelled by the regulator as compared to the five years validity of the previously granted licenses. So, new guidelines will made provision for licenses to have indefinite validity and hence, will help the pension sector to grow to new levels.

 The state government of Madhya Pradesh has decided to employ drones for mapping of villages. The state revenue department of Madhya Pradesh has entered into an agreement with the Survey of India, under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Survey of India is the India’s national mapping agency. Drones will be used for the mapping of 55 thousand villages of the state on a scale of 1:500. The mapping on such a scale will provide a clearer picture of the population area. This work of land survey in the state was earlier used to be done with the help of satellite images.

 Hockey India and Sports Authority of India (SAI) has announced the plan of establishing the High Performance Hockey Centres. These High Performance Hockey Centres aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities to junior and sub-Junior players and to groom the young talent in view of 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games. These High Performance Hockey Centres will be established in seven places across India. The monitoring of these High Performance Hockey Centres will be done by Hockey India while keeping in mind that athletes are provided with international exposure.
  • Establishment of High Performance Centres:
The seven High Performance Hockey Centres will have expert professional training, utilization of sports science, and education of the youngsters. It will be set up under the purview of Khelo India scheme. Hockey India & SAI will also convert other capable centres around the country into High Performance Centres in the future.

  • 2. Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi (North Zone)

  • 5. SAI NS NEC, Takyel, Imphal, Manipur (North-East Zone)
  • 6. Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune, Maharashtra (West Zone)
  • 7. SAI Centre, Ranchi and Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium (East Zone II)

 As per World Steel Association data, India became the second-largest steel producer of crude steel after China  2019, by replacing Japan. India’s crude steel production in 2019 was at 111.2 MT, an increase of 1.7 per cent from 109.3 MT in 2018. China remains number one with 996.3 million tonnes in 2019. The United States and Russia rank fourth and fifth respectively.

  Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the 1st time, will sign a partnership pact with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) at the DefExpo 2020 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. This pact is signed for manufacture advanced Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) in India. As a large MALE (Medium Altitude, Long Endurance) UCAV has a maximum flight time of over 36 hours in favourable conditions. This will be manufactured to cater both to Indian requirements for a combat UCAV and possibly exports to third nations in the future as well. UCAV has a maximum payload weighing of 40 kg & work on sensors, payloads and other data links has been outsourced to institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

  Fitch Ratings has estimated India’s GDP growth of 5.6% in the next FY21 in its India Economic Outlook. This forecast is lower than the projection made by the government’s Economic Survey. For the current fiscal 2019-20 (FY 20), GDP is projected at 4.6%. Fitch has also estimated that in the fiscal year 2022, government debt will remain 70% of total GDP.

  International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female is observed globally on 6 February. This day is sponsored by the United Nations for their efforts to eradicate female genital mutilation. It was first introduced in 2003.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights, the health and the integrity of girls and women. Girls who undergo female genital mutilation face short-term complications such as severe pain, shock, excessive bleeding, infections, and difficulty in passing urine, as well as long-term consequences for their sexual and reproductive health and mental health.
