 At an event, Oxigen and Fincare Small Finance Bank signed an agreement to roll out the Branchless Banking services, using Oxigen's flagship Point of Sale device called the Oxigen Micro ATM Super PoS. The event graced by Brand Ambassador Grand Master Viswanathan Anand. Oxigen has been marching forward on its financial inclusion agenda to offer Branchless banking services to India's rural unbanked/underbanked segments.

 The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a contest, #Childline1098, inviting people to share images of the Childline 1098 logo that they spot at unique locations and send it with a tagline, to mark World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30.  CHILDLINE is India's first 24-hour, free, emergency phone service for children in need of aid and assistance. At present, it is operational at 450 locations. 

 Canadian author Michael Ondaatje has again made the Man Booker Prize list with his latest novel “Warlight,” weeks after his book “The English Patient” was named the best work of fiction from the last five decades of the literary prize. Organizers announced the 13 books in the long list for the prestigious award, chosen from 171 submissions this year, the highest number of titles that have been put forward in the prize’s 50-year history.

 India and Uganda signed four MoUs in various fields including the areas of defence, diplomatic ties, cultural exchange and material testing laboratory. The agreements were signed following the delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala. 
Here are the MoUs signed between India and Uganda:
  • MoU on Defence Cooperation. 
  • MoU on Visa exemption for Diplomatic and official passport holders. 
  • MoU on Cultural Exchange Programme. 
  • MoU on Material Testing Laboratory.

       Tata AIA Life has recently announced that its board has appointed Rishi Srivastava as the new chief executive officer and managing director, subject to regulatory approval from IRDAI. Srivastava will take over from current chief executive officer Naveen Tahilyani who takes over as chief executive officer, group partnership distribution, AIA Group, Hong Kong.

      Ministry of Women and Child Development had organized the 2nd meeting of National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges under POSHAN Abhiyaan in New Dehli under the Chairmanship of Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, NITI Aayog. It was declared that the month of September will be celebrated as National Nutrition Month every year.During the meeting in-principle approval of the guidelines for construction of Anganwadi centres in urban areas/slums under Anganwadi services was also given.

     The 10th edition of BRICS Summit began in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is 3 day long summit and will be attended by all the BRICS leaders. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-nation tour of Africa will culminate in South Africa. The theme for this summit is ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution'. Modi is likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit. 

     An Indian Air Force contingent comprising of four Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft landed at Darwin Air Force Base,Australia for participating in the Exercise Pitch Black-2018.  This is the first time that an Indian Air Force contingent is participating in this multinational air exercise in Australia. The Indian Air Force contingent consists of 145 personnel. The contingent will undertake simulated air combat exercises in a controlled environment.

     The Lok Sabha passed the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 which has the provision of allowing a court trying an offence related to cheque bouncing, to direct the drawer to pay interim compensation to the complainant. According to the Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, 16 lakh cheque bouncing cases are lying in the subordinate courts and 35 thousand cases are in the higher judiciary. The interim compensation will not exceed 20% of the cheque amount and will have to be paid by the drawer within 60 days of the trial court’s order to pay such a compensation.

     India and Rwanda signed eight agreements following delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali. The two countries signed agreements in the fields of Defence, Trade, Agriculture, Leather and allied products and Dairy.  India also extended two Lines of Credit of 100 million US dollars each – one for development of industrial parks and Kigali Special Economic Zone, and the other for three agricultural projects in Rwanda. Mr Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Rwanda on the first leg of his three-nation tour to Africa.
