Virendra Kumar, a seven-term member of Parliament will be the pro-tem speaker of the Lok Sabha. As pro-tem speaker, he will preside over the first sitting of the Lok Sabha and administer the oath of office to the newly elected MPs.

  Thailand’s new parliament has elected military government chief Prayuth Chan-ochaas the country’s prime minister. He received 500 votes to 244 for Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit of the Future Forward Party. Prayuth’s appointment becomes official when it is endorsed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

  Former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami has been appointed as an electoral officer for the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on October 22, 2019. The Committee of Administrators (CoA), which was appointed by the Supreme Court in January 2017 to oversee the sweeping reforms recommended by the Lodha panel, met at the BCCI headquarters to discuss the road map for the elections.

 In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy will be sworn in as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on 30th of May at Vijayawada. Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced this following his party achieving inching towards a landslide victory in the legislative elections for Andhra Pradesh Legislative assembly. Once sworn in, he will replace N Chandrababu Naidu has resigned as Andhra Pradesh CM.

 The Centre has cleared four names recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation as judges of the apex court. The four appointed judges are Justice Aniruddha Bose, Justice A S Bopanna, Justice B R Gavai and Justice Surya Kant. Law Ministry has issued the notification after President Ram Nath Kovind signed their warrants of appointment. Supreme Court will reach its full sanctioned strength of 31 judges after the appointment of four new judges. As of now, the apex court is functioning with 27 judges including the Chief Justice.

 Volodymyr Zelenskiy took the oath of office as the president of Ukraine and immediately announced that he is dissolving the Verkhovna Rada, the country’s parliament. In his inaugural speech, Zelenskiy called for the dismissal of several top security officials. He has replaced Petro Poroshenko.

 Indonesia’s Joko Widodo has been re-elected as president of the country, beating rival Prabowo Subianto, a retired general. Widodo and his vice-presidential running mate Ma’ruf Amin won the election by a 55.5% to 44.5% margin over Subianto and Sandiaga Uno.

  Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Limited has appointed Nitin Chugh as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from December 1, 2019. Bank’s current MD and CEO, Samit Ghosh is retiring on November 30, 2019. The bank has received the approval of its application for Chugh’s appointment, from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
