  IPS officer Vivek Kumar Johri took charge as the Director General (DG) of the country’s largest border guarding force, BSF. He will replace Rajni Kant Mishra. VK Johri has been serving as the Special Secretary in the external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), under the Cabinet Secretariat. He will retire in September next year and is the 25th chief of the force.

A total of five governors have been appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind, including the transfer and appointment of Kalraj Mishra.
  • Kalraj Mishra, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, was transferred and appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan. He will replace Kalyan Singh.
  • Taking over Mishra’s role as Himachal governor is former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya.
  • Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has been appointed as the Governor of Telangana, replacing ESL Narasimhan.
  • Bhagat Singh Koshyari has been appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra. Koshyari will replace Vidyasagar Rao.
  • Arif Mohammed Khan has been appointed as the Kerala governor in place of P Sathasivam.

  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of P.K. Sinha as “Officer on Special Duty” in the office of the Prime Minister. P K Sinha was earlier serving as the Cabinet Secretary before the appointment of Rajiv Gauba.

 ICRA Ltd ousted its Managing Director and group Chief Executive Officer Naresh Takkar. ICRA has terminated the employment of Takkar with immediate effect over allegations of misconduct at the credit rating agency under Takkar. This is the first time a top official of a rating agency has been fired by the company’s board.

  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister has approved the extension of the tenure of CBDT Chairman Pramod Chander Mody. The tenure of the CBDT chairman has been extended by one year. Pramod Chander Mody was appointed as the chairman of CBDT in Feb 2019, when Sushil Chandra, the then CBDT chief, was appointed as an Election Commissioner.

Former human rights lawyer Lionel Aingimea won the presidential election of the pacific nation Nauru by defeating his rival David Adeang by 12-6 votes. He is now the 15th President of Nauru succeeding the outgoing President Baron Waqa.

  Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has selected Pramod Agarwal as the next chairman of Coal India. He is a 1991 batch IAS from Madhya Pradesh cadre. He will take over after the present chairman A K Jha retires in January 2020. Agarwal is currently principal secretary for urban development and housing department in Madhya Pradesh.

Senior diplomat Pavan Kapoor has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates by the Ministry of External Affairs. Kapoor, a 1990-batch Indian Foreign Service officer. He will replace Navdeep Suri as India’s Ambassador to the UAE.

  Ajay Kumar Bhalla was appointed as the new Union Home Secretary. He is currently serving as an officer on special duty in the home ministry. He replaces Rajiv Gauba, who was appointed as the new cabinet secretary. The Appointments Committee of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved Bhalla’s appointment as the new home secretary.

  Ajay Kumar has been appointed as Defence Secretary. He is currently serving as Secretary in Department of Defence Production. He will replace Sanjay Mitra, upon completion of his term. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved his appointments.
