  Sudhanshu Pandey has assumed additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director of Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation (MMTC) Ltd. He is presently served as Additional Secretary at the Department of Commerce. He was the successor of Ved Prakash. MMTC is one of the two highest foreign exchange earners for India (after petroleum refining companies), the largest international trading company of India & also largest public sector trading body. The main objective of the company was the export of mineral ores & import of essential metals.

  Pekka Lundmark has been announced as the new Chief Executive Officer & President of Nokia. Pekka Lundmark will succeed Rajeev Suri who will serve as the President & CEO of Nokia till August 31, 2020. Pekka Lundmark is presently serving as the President and CEO of an energy company “Fortum” which is based in Espoo, Finland.

  Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the appointment of Sunil Gurbaxani as managing director and CEO of Dhanlaxmi Bank for a period of three years. Gurbaxani is working with Axis Bank at present. Dhanlaxmi Bank was removed from the RBI Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework, subject to certain conditions and continuous monitoring, as the bank is found to be not breaching any of the risk thresholds of the framework.

  The US-India Business Council (USIBC) has appointed Vijay Advani as new Chair of its Global Board of Directors. Prior to this, he served as Executive Chairman of the Board in January 2020. The council also announced two new members of the Global Board of Directors Lockheed Martin International Senior Vice President Tim Cahill and GE South Asia President & CEO Mahesh Palashikar. US India Business Council (USIBC) represents top global companies operating across the United States, India, and Indo-Pacific.

  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers Amarjeet Sinha and Bhaskar Khulbe as the Advisers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The appointments of the retired administrative officers has been made on contractual basis. Both the officers are from the 1983 batch, Bhaskar Khulbe from the West Bengal Cadre while Amarjeet Sinha from the Bihar Cadre.

  Sanjay Kothari has been selected as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner by a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is presently served as the Secretary to the President. The Central Vigilance Commission is an-corruption watchdog with autonomous status.
Other Appointments:
  • The committee has also chosen former Information and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka as the new Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission.  He is currently serving as an Information Commissioner. The Central Information Commission was constituted under the Right to Information Act and has jurisdiction over all central public authorities.
  • The panel also decided by majority the appointment of Suresh Patel as Vigilance Commissioner and Anita Pandove as Information Commissioner.

 Australia has appointed Barry O’Farrell as the next high commissioner to India. He will succeed Harinder Sidhu who has been in the office since 2016. O’Farrell served in the New South Wales Parliament from 1995-2015. He has served as NSW’s special envoy for India and made a significant contribution as the deputy chair of the Australia India Council Board. India is a significant trading partner of Australia, with 2-way investment valued of 30.7 billion dollars & around 700,000 people of Indian Origin were living in Australia.

  GoAir has appointed Vinay Dube, the former chief executive officer (CEO) of Jet Airways, as its new CEO. He will be responsible for the management of the airline and also for meeting the goals and long-term growth objectives of the company. The budget airline did not have a CEO since the departure of Cornelis Vrieswijk in March last year. Earlier, Dube has served as Senior Vice President-Asia Pacific at Delta Air Lines, CEO at Delta Technology LLC, Vice President-Consulting & Marketing Solutions at Sabre Airline Solutions, among other positions.

 Senior IAS officer Rajiv Bansal was named the Chairman and Managing Director of national carrier Air India. He succeeds Ashwani Lohani. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment as CMD of Air India. Bansal, a 1988 batch officer of the Nagaland cadre, held the post of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

  Pramod Agrawal assumed charge as the new chairman and managing director of Coal India Ltd. He was the successor of Anil Kumar Jha who retired on 31st January 2020. He is a 1991 batch IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer, served as the principal secretary for urban development and housing department in Madhya Pradesh (MP), Bhopal.
