 The UN’s environment chief, Erik Solheim, has resigned following severe criticism of his global travels and internal rule-breaking which led some nations to withhold their funding. The former environment minister of Norway had been at the helm of the Nairobi-based UN Environment since June 2016. Solheim’s resignation comes ahead of crucial talks opening in Poland on December 2 on implementing the Paris climate deal.

  R. Chandrashekhar, an independent director at Yes Bank Ltd resigned saying he was concerned about recent events at the company. Notably, Yes Bank has been ordered by India’s central bank to replace its chief executive officer, Rana Kapoor.

 Oracle’s ex-product chief Thomas Kurian will head Google’s cloud division. He will replace Diane Greene. Kurian will join Google Cloud on November 26 and transition into the leadership role in early 2019. Greene, who will remain a director on the Alphabet board, had joined Google in December 2015 to run its cloud business.

 The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey as the new revenue secretary. He will succeed current Finance and Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia. Mr Adhia is retiring on November 30. Mr Pandey will continue to hold the charge as the CEO of UIDAI and GSTN Chairman until further orders. Pandey is a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Maharashtra cadre.

 Jalaj Srivastava, a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has been appointed the chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). The IWAI comes under the Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, currently headed by Nitin Gadkari. Srivastava is presently working as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture.

  The United Nations Children’s Fund-India (UNICEF) has appointed Asian Games gold-medalist sprinter Hima Das as India’s first ever Youth Ambassador. Recently, Hima clinched a Gold medal in Women’s 4×400 metre relay event at the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta, Indonesian. She also won Silver in the Women’s 400m Race event with a clock timing of 50.59 seconds.

 Ashok Chawla, chairman of Yes Bank Ltd, resigned with immediate effect from the lender’s board after being named in a corruption charge sheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Mr. Ashok Chawla is the present Chairman of the Board of Directors of NSE and Mr. Vikram Limaye is the Managing Director and CEO of NSE.

 After the demise of Union Minister Ananth Kumar, Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has got the additional charge of the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Narendra Singh Tomar was assigned the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Currently, DV Sadananda Gowda holds the portfolio of Statistics and Programme Implementation, while Narendra Singh is Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Mines. Mr Ananth Kumar passed away recently due to multiple organ failure.

 The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) announced a new addition to its team, with Siddharth Tiwari joining as the Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific. He succeeds Eli Remolona, who was the previous Chief Representative of the Asian Office who held this position from 2008 to 2018.

 Indian Revenue Service officer Sanjay Mishra was appointed as the new Enforcement Directorate Director (ED) in an additional capacity for three months. He has replaced Karnal Singh. He has also been appointed as the Principal Special Director in the same agency.
