 Former IAS Officer Ashok Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). His appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Mr Gupta has replaced Sudhir Mittal. His tenure as the CCI Chairman will be till October 25, 2022, i.e. when attains the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. |

 HDFC Bank had announced that the RBI had approved the re-appointment of Aditya Puri as MD and CEO of the bank for another two years. Aditya Puri will now serve the office from November 1, 2018, to October 26, 2020. Shareholders had already approved his appointment in 2015 for five years subject to the RBI’s approval. Puri has been with HDFC Bank since 1994, making him the longest-serving head of any private bank in the country. |

 Paytm Payments Bank has appointed veteran banker Satish Kumar Gupta as its new Managing Director and CEO. The post was lying vacant after Renu Satti stepped down in July 2018. Satti now heads the company’s new retail business. The veteran banker had earlier served as the Deputy General Manager at State Bank of India where he worked for over three decades. Following that, he became the Chief Project Officer at National Payments Corporation of India that manages the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). |

 The Union Government has sent CBI Director Alok Verma on leave. Verma was appointed as CBI Director in 2016 for two years and his tenure ends in December 2018. The decision was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The committee also issued an order appointing M Nageshwar Rao as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Rao is presently working as Joint Director at the CBI. Rao will take over the duties and functions of CBI Director with immediate effect. |
