  Nadubhagam Chundan, the snake boat of Pallathuruthy Boat Club, lifted the 67th edition of the Nehru Trophy at the Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha in Kerala. A total of 79 boats, including 23 snake boats, participated in the Nehru trophy. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the event in the presence of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who was the chief guest of the event.

  Health minister has announced that Central Government Health Scheme’s services would be available to 100 cities by 2022. He announced it during the inauguration of state-of-the-art CGHS Bhawan in New Delhi. The minister also launched the new scheme “Annual Health Check-up” of CGHS beneficiaries for pensioners of the age of 75 years and above.

  Russia will train four Indian astronauts for India’s ambitious manned mission to space, Gaganyaan. Indian astronauts will be trained at Russian facilities. A special ISRO unit will be established in the embassy in Moscow to facilitate increased cooperation between India and Russia in view of the Gaganyaan mission. Under the Gaganyaan Mission, Indian Space Research Research Organisation has outlined a road map to put a three-man crew in a low earth orbit for 5-7 days by December 2021.

  The amended provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, which hike the penalty for traffic rules violation have come into force from 01st September 2019. As many as 63 clauses of the Act, which correspond to an increase in the fine for traffic rule violation came into force. The fine for jumping red-light has been revised from 1,000 rupees earlier to 5,000 rupees now. Driving without wearing the seat belt, which earlier invited a fine of 100 rupees will now attract a fine of 1,000 rupees.

  Air India, India’s national airline, will ban the usage of single-use plastic aboard its flights from October 2, 2019. The ban will come into effect on all flights of Air India Express and Alliance Air flights. Air India will replace plastic teacups and tumblers with sturdy paper cups and tumblers.

  A mobile app was launched to help para-athletes to look up accessible places in Tokyo during their visit to the city for the 2020 Paralympics Games. The application  “IndTokyo”which was launched by Arhan Bagati, Awareness and Impact Ambassador of Paralympic Committee of India, at the ‘Countdown to Tokyo 2020’.

  The Minister of State for Culture & Tourism (Independent Charge) has launched an integrated NOC online Application Processing System for National Monuments Authority in New Delhi. This will help in online processing of applications requesting NOC for construction related work in prohibited and regulated area of ASI protected monuments.
6 new states will be part of this Integrated Online Application Portal with Urban Local Bodies Count. The details of States and Urban Local Bodies are as follows:
  • Madhya Pradesh (378)
  • Andhra Pradesh (110)
  • Haryana (15)
  • Punjab (10)
  • Jharkhand (3)
  • Telangana (1)
Earlier this system was available only for five urban local bodies of Delhi and one urban local body of Mumbai.

  The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) decided to rename Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium as Arun Jaitley Stadium in the memory of its former president of DDCA. Jaitley was the president of DDCA from 1999 to 2013. The renaming of the stadium will take place in September.

  Amazon India has launched a Military Veterans Employment programme in the country. This programme will create employment opportunities for military veterans and their spouses across the company’s fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery centres in India. Amazon India is partnering with the office of the Director-General of Resettlement (DGR) and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) to create continued work opportunities for military families across the country.

  The Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani has inaugurated Project SU.RE(Sustainable Resolution). This is a joint project of CMAI(Clothing Manufacturers Association of India)& IMG Reliance(International Management Group, during Lakme Fashion Winter/Festive 2019 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The aim of this initiative is to move towards sustainable fashion that contributes to a clean environment.
