 The First WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health took place at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference was organized in collaboration with UN Environment, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC), the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the World Bank and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

 Tourism minister KJ Alphons along with a delegation of senior officials attended the 109th session of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Executive Council in Manama, Bahrain. The Executive Council will discuss several topics on the agenda that are related to the development of global Tourism sector. During the opening day of the Executive Council meeting, Alphons chaired the ‘Programme and Budget Committee’ meeting of UNWTO. For the first time, UNWTO had a surplus budget and most of the arrears due have been paid. India will be the chair of Programme and Budget Committee of Executive Council till 2021.

 The first ever India-US Dialogue on Intellectual Property has been launched in Delhi to deepen bilateral strategic cooperation on IP policy. The dialogue was launched by US Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) and FICCI in partnership with the US-India Business Council. It will be convened annually, alternating between New Delhi and Washington, DC.

 Indian Air Force has organised a two day seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Aviation Engineering and Logistics’ (AVIAMAT-2018) at Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, New Delhi.  The Seminar brought together designers, producers, and users of high-tech aviation equipment to discuss the potential of innovative indigenous technologies.

  The Kingdom of Netherlands will be the Partner Country 25th DST – CII Technology Summit to be organized in 2019, announced Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Dr. Vardhan had made this announcement at the Curtain Raiser event of the Silver Jubilee edition of Technology Summit – 2019.

 The 13th Annual Summit between India and Japan was held in presence of PM Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, Japan. Issues of mutual interest, including forging ties in newer areas were discussed during the talks. The areas include health, digital technologies, agriculture and food processing and disaster risk reduction. The two sides also reviewed the existing defence and security ties besides the ongoing infrastructure projects in India with Japanese involvement.

 The 22nd National Level Meeting between India and Myanmar was held in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Rajiv Gauba, Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI. During the meeting, both sides agreed to take action against insurgent groups operating within their territories and providing of security cooperation along with international border and facilitating movement of people and trade across the international border.

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a farmers’ conclave ‘Krishi Kumbh 2018’ in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh via video conferencing. The three-day ‘Krishi Kumbh’ is being organized to promote modern technique and diversification in agriculture that could help in doubling farmers income. The Kumbh witnessed two of the world’s top economies, Israel and Japan, as official partners while Haryana and Jharkhand as partner states. The Uttar Pradesh government will also sign a MoU with Japan for investment in the agricultural and allied sectors.

 J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare addressed the ‘Second Plenary Session of ‘2nd International Conference on Primary Health Care (PHC) towards UHC & SDGs’, at Astana, Kazakhstan. The conference aims to renew the commitment to primary health care to achieve universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. Mr Nadda spoke on the theme “The Future of Primary Health Care”.
