 Commonwealth gold medal winning table tennis star Manika Batra and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu have signed multi-year agreements with sports management firm IOS. IOS will now manage their endorsements, appearances, brand profiling, patents, licensing and digital rights, images, and visibility on social networking sites. With this deal, Manika and Mirabai join the likes of boxing stars MC Mary Kom, Vijender Singh and Saina Nehwal on the IOS roster.

 Polish author Olga Tokarczuk has won the Man Booker International Prize for her novel ‘Flights’. The novel, translated by Jennifer Croft, interweaves narratives of travel with explorations of the human body. It bagged the 67,000 US dollar prize after topping a shortlist of six titles, with Tokarczuk becoming the first Polish writer to win the award. The awards were announced at a ceremony in London. The head judge of the awards was Lisa Appignanesi.

 Home Minister Rajnath Singh has announced that the family of a paramilitary jawan who dies in action will be given a minimum compensation of one crore rupees.  The Home Minister presented gallantry awards to BSF jawans and officers.

 Rajasthan Government has launched new software called Nidaan for disease monitoring and strengthening tele-medicine services in the government hospitals. The software will help for providing presumptive diagnosis and monitoring of seasonal and non-communicable diseases as well as trends of ailments found in specific areas.

Nidaan Softwarre will facilitate online entries for monitoring of as many as 46 diseases and healthcare services available for their treatment in different institutions. It is also expected to help in formulation of specific action plans for control of diseases. It will help in effective policy formulation in health sector as there will be simultaneous monitoring of programmes run under National Health Mission. It will ensure timely prevention of diseases by ensuring monitoring of activities of District Early Intervention Centres and also ensure availability of quality healthcare services.

  NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar exuded confidence that Indian economy will achieve 9% growth rate on sustained basis by 2022 on the back of reforms like GST, demonetisation and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
According to Mr Kumar, Indian economy grew by 6.6% in 2017-18 and expected to grow at 7.5% this fiscal.

  State Bank of India (SBI), the country's biggest lender, reported a loss of Rs. 7,718 crore in the January-March quarter, hurt by higher provisions for bad loans. The loss for the three months to March 31 was deeper than the expected Rs. 1,285 crore on average by 16 analysts, according to Thomson Reuters data.
SBI shares rallied after the results were announced. Shares were up 5% at Rs. 256 in afternoon trade. Gross bad loans as a percentage of total loans rose to 10.91% from 10.35% three months earlier and 6.90% a year prior.

  Indian Air Force Chief Marshal Birendra Singh Dhanoa left to Israel on a four-day tour of the country. In Israel, the Chief of the Air Staff will be attending a conference on ‘Air Superiority as a Bridge to Regional Stability’. The conference is part of the Israel Air Force’s 70th-anniversary celebrations. According to the Ministry of Defence, the conference will enable strategic dialogue between Israel’s highest leadership, innovative thinkers and the invited Air Force Commanders.

  The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has promoted Stacey Cunningham to President, making her the first sole woman head of the 226-year-old exchange.  The 43-year-old became NYSE's Chief Operating Officer (COO) in June 2015. With Cunningham's promotion, America's leading two stock exchanges will be led by women after Adena Friedman took over as CEO of Nasdaq in January 2017.

  Annual MoU was signed between Ministry of Railway & Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) regarding financial & non-financial targets for the company. Mr Ranjanesh Sahai, Secretary, Railway Board & Mr S.C. Agnihotri, Chairman & Managing Director, RVNL signed the MoU in New Delhi. The target for revenue from operations for RVNL has been set of Rs 7600 Cr for the FY 2018-19.

 Coimbatore racer Bala Prasath has won the Formula Junior Racing Series 2018 Championship in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Bala, who was trailing in second place after Round 1 with 91 points, was in his element in Round 2 at the Kari Motor Speedway.
