Jawaharlal Nehru was born on l4th November, 1989, at Allahabad. He was the son of Pt. Moti Lal Nehru and Swoop Rani.

Moti Lal was a rich lawyer. As such, Jawaharlal was born with a silver spoon in his month. Jawaharlal received his early education at home. He went to England in 1905 for higher studies. He studied at the Public School at Harrow. Later, he received education at Cambridge. He was called to the bar.

He returned to India in 1912 and started practice at the Allahabad High Court. He, however, came under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi. He joined the Indian National Congress and jumped into the National Independence movement.

 He spent the prime of his life in the jail. It was in the jail that he did most of his writing work He is known not only as a great patriot and statesman but also as a great writer.

 His most famous works are—Discovery of India Glimpses of World History and An Autobiography. He is acknowledged as a great humanist, prose-stylist and historian. Both as a man and writer, Jawaharlal was larger than life. He served as a bridge between the east and the west.

 His prose style is simple, lucid and free from dogma. He has the knack of expressing his view point clearly in a simple way such that even an ordinary reader is greatly impressed. He does not believe in such complex nuances as circumlocution, inversion, use of oxymora’s and the like.

He has a rational and scientific bent of mind. He is a great nationalist but he also lives all mankind. As such, he is also a Universalist of the list order.

He rejects communalism and reguienation of religious. He believes in broadness of mind and attitude. He is an agnostic, but he believes in the efficacy of intuition, the good or adverse effect factions and the usefulness of true spirituality such as advocated by Sri Eurobond, Tagore and Swami Vivekananda.

He is a great lover of India, man and nature, which is abundantly brought out in almost all his works.

Jawaharlal has genuine love for the poor. His historical studies; are based as much on the effect of economic forces operating in the market in various periods of history as on the glamour of kings, rulers and generals. his broad sympathy with time toiling masses in everywhere visible.

Jawaharlal is a poet at heart who grows ecstatic as he describes some natural scenery or objects such as the Himalayas, the Ganga, the clouds, the rainbow, etc. He loves not only men and objects of nature but also animals, birds and insects.

He is rightly known as a great lover of children who still call him "Chacha Nehru". His birthday is observed all over India as Children's Day. He became the first Prime Minister of India on 15thAugust, 1947, when India attained freedom. He gave stress on strengthening the democratic institutions and establishment of heavy industry.

Thus, he is one of the foremost makers of modern India. As such, he will always be remembered with love and affection by every Indian. He was a great lover of the youth and wherever he went. He conveyed his message of true patriot ion, dedication, sincerity and perseverance to the youth.

He was a great lover of world peace. He was one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement. He tried to establish friendly relations with all countries. Unfortunately, China stabbed India in the back when she attacked her in 1962. It was a great shock to Nehru and he died on 27th May, 1964.
