It is said that life may be measured not by the breath we take, but by the breath we hope. And many a time, I had to hold my breath when I saw Sachin in action. Sachin Tendulkar is, in fact, my hero.   He started playing cricket at a very young age. With the passage of time, his cricket career has went from strength to strength and the best is yet to come.   I am a cricket enthusiast. I love cricket the most and would go many miles on foot to see a good cricket match. I find it so thrilling and enchanting especially when Sachin is there as one of the players. I try to see each and every cricket match starring my hero and star Tendulkar. I  watch cricket match either on TV or by going to the stadium.   Born on April 24, 1973, Tendulkar more...

Students look upon examinations with contempt; they make all possible effort to avoid them. Educationists are against them and are thinking of abolishing them. Critics find fait with them.   In spite of condemnation from all quarters, examinations persist. They seem indispensable in every walk of life. They are like milestone on the road to education and life.   Examinations are not necessarily the sure test of the ability of students. They are judges from what they perform in the exams. Sometimes the most brilliant students is not able to do justice in such a short duration.   On the contrary a student who has not touched the books the whole year gets good marks because all the questions he prepared just before the examination were asked.   Shakespeare never passed any examination yet his works have won world-wide recognition. The world's greatest scientist Einstein, father of the atomic age more...

In October every year our school holds the annual function for prize distribution. This year also the prize distribution function was held.   The function was held in our assembly hall within the compound as the school hall was not big enough to hold all the students, teachers and the visitors.   It was beautifully decorated with flags, mottoes and pictures. A large platform had been put up and over it were placed tables loaded with prizes and chairs for the governor and the high officials of the city. There were chairs for visitors, while we sat on benches.   We were all on our seats by 3.00 p. m. The governor and other guests arrived exactly at 3.15 p.m. He was received at the gate by the principal. The boy scouts of the school welcomed the chief guest with national flags in their hands.   The girls sang a more...

At present there is so much reading material in the world that it is hard to make a selection.   Man reads books, magazines and newspapers from different angles. Students read books as they are prescribed in their courses.   Research scholars go through hundreds of books, magazines, etc. to complete their research. Several other people read so many things to increase their knowledge.   Generally, we read newspapers to get general information regarding news, sports, health, business, etc.   The most important aspect of reading, however, is the pleasure it provides to us. When we open a book, such as the Gitanjali, we are simply enthralled by reading the very first line. As we read further, our curiosity goes on increasing and similarly our pleasure.   Those who read technical books, actually do not get real pleasure. What they get is information regarding their subject.   Real pleasure is more...

It is true that we should avoid living in a make- believe world. Day-dreaming often leads a dreamer to disappointment, frustration and discontentment. It is neither practical; nor a possibility in real life. But it has often been witnessed that miracles do, at times, occur in a man's life.   The advice that I should act only in the living present with heart within and God overhead doesn't seem to have been coined for me. I am a human being made up of blood and flesh.   I can't prevent myself from lapsing into reveries, if I choose so. So if I ever succeed in becoming a millionaire, by virtue of a miracle, or by love of my day-dreaming, I know in advance as to how I shall spend my newly- acquired money.   My first priority will be the homeless people who are old and have been rejected as more...

I live in a city that is noisy, polluted and over- crowded, but I love it simply because I was born here and have never been to a village to know the quiet bliss of village life.   My friends who go to the village for holidays tell me that it is peaceful, slow-paced and laid back, where life is really simple and the fresh air is vibrant. Their description of a village is a cluster of mud Houses, where a community of families', say  hundred odd families live in peace and harmony. Where each family extends its support, help and commitment to the other.   Most of the villagers depend on labour  and cottage industries to survive. Many of them are illiterate and know no other profession except farming, which has been passed on as a means of survival for generations.   Festivals and fairs hold tremendous significance in more...

I think that the media have little to do with the increase in violence. Too many people try to place the blame of their actions on someone or something else.   I think that there are several steps that should be taken to eliminate violence. Factors that are to blame for violence are parents roles in their children's lives and personal responsibility.   Consequences should be more effectively carried out. Alternatives to violence should be encouraged and practiced on a greater scale.   I think that the process of discouraging violence should begin at home. Parents should raise their children with the values and morals to act responsibly and take the blame for their own actions. Parents should act in a manner than reflects this theory.   Most people can control their actions and refrain from violent acts. If parents encourage better behavior then children will carry out this behavior more...

Seasons change with the change in nature. Summer, Rainy, Winter and Spring are the seasons in our tropical continent. The summers are so hot that people eagerly wait for the monsoon.   The rains bring relief. The winters are cold and many parts of northern India experience snow fall. The 'queen of seasons'. Spring is also the 'season of festivals'. Every season has its own characteristic features.   During Summer season the intense heat and the Scorching sun rays are a curse. People prefer to Stay indoors.   Many areas face the problem of water scarcity. Almost every year during summers epidemic breaks out. But despite the various drawbacks of the summer season, it is the season I like most.   The end of the Spring is the beginning of Summer. I welcome this change as it is the sign of fast approaching summer vacations. These holidays are always awaited. more...
