Cigarette smoking is one of the major killers in the world. The biggest side affect from smoking is cancer. Cancer is a group of many related diseases. All forms of Cancer involve out-of-control growth and spread of abnormal cells. The risk of dying from lung cancer is 22 times higher for males, and 12 times higher for female smokers as oppose to non -smokers. Additionally, smokers are at an increased risk for cancer of the larynx, oral cavity, oesophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas. Scientists have discovered that air pollution from the burning of fossil fuels, mainly in power stations and industry in countries such as Germany, United Kingdom and other economically developed countries, is the major cause of acid rain. Many say that at the current rate of development, we're headed for an environmental disaster. Humans don't exactly hold the best track record for environmental protection and preservation. Throughout time we have exploited nature and its creatures for our own benefit. We have made technological advances that threaten and disrupt the environment with total disregard for that fact. We took slipshod short cuts that are now catching up to us today and we can think of no available alternatives that will remedy the problem quickly and usefully. Charles Darwin was born on February 12,1809 in the city of Shrewsbbury, England and was raised as a fifth child by a wealthy family. His father was a physician and son of Erasmus Darwin, a poet, philosopher and naturalist. His mother Susannah Wedgewood died when Charles was eight. In 1825, Darwin graduated from the elite school at Shrewsbury. He then attended the University of Edinburgh to study medicine.
