It was a holiday. I was sitting in my room after finishing my home work. As my friends were away to hill stations, I was feeling very lonely. I watched the cars and other vehicles passing by and wished that even I was travelling or passing my time with my friends. While my mind was occupied with thoughts of holidaysI and having fun with my friends the door bell rang. I ran to answer it and who should I see but the postmanwith a parcel and a letter for me. I signed the paper and took the parcel. My hands were itching to open the packet and my curiosity knew no bounds. I ripped the parcel open and found a beautiful tape recorder in it. The parcel had arrived from the United States and the letter along with it was from my uncle who had sent me this wonderful gift. more...

I like many indoor games. They are a great help on rainydays and also on hot summer afternoons when schoolsare closed for holidays and my friends and I am leftwithout any new ways of passing the time. When I was younger I used to play snakes and ladderswhere one's luck was all that mattered. One had to move ones coin according to the number secured on the dice. Ludo was another game that I have always loved to play. However as I have grown up I have developed an interest in other games too. Monopoly is one of these. This is a game of business where luck and calculation are equally involved. Fake money is used to build hotels and houses and theone' who ends up with the maximum monetary gains wins the game. This game is great fun to play as it leads to a great deal of competition. more...

The price of gold continues to set new records with almost three times Increase in last few years. There are several factors at play which are leading to demand for gold rising, pushing up the price. Realizing that the eradication of illiteracy from a vast country like India beset by several social and economic hurdles is not an easy task the National Literacy Mission (NLM) was set up on 5th May 1988 to impart a new sense of urgency and seriousness to adult education. The problem in India is that land features change every few kilometres and, therefore, there can be no uniform or standing national water policy which can be put intopractice properly unless it takes into account theelaborate terrestrial conditions of the terrain in itsdiversity which is too large and whopping. Then we have local variation depending on soil, cropssown and the mode of irrigation. The result is that Whereas there may be an acute paucity of water in onearea another one, not quite far away, may be suffering from the acute problem of water logging. In certain states, as during the Green Revolution inPunjab, the underground water has been tapped to Criminal excess, thus lowering the level to an alarming extent. This local variation can be gauged from the situationprevailing in Punjab and Haryana. In Punjab, whereas in several areas there is scarcity of water, in the districts of Ferozepur and more...

For almost six years now, I have been wearing an oldwrist watch which once belonged to my grandmother. That watch has been a great source of embarrassment for me as all my classmates tease me about it. I do admit that it’s an antique watch which often refusesIn lick. As a result most often my friends have to keep telling me the time much to their irritation. I have been coaxing my parents to buy me a new watch-but they haven't yet paid any heed to my demand. They pacify me when I get agitated by saying that it is my grandmother's favourite watch and that I can serve Her memory well by 'putting her watch to good use.Although I don't agree witli this argument I cannot get Away with too much of complaining. So I force myselfto remain satisfied with what I have. While the question of a new more...

It was the 14th November 1889 when the Great national hero Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was born. He liked to be among them, chat with them and listen to them patiently. The children obviously loved him and respected him. He was called "Chacha Nehru" by them. Freedom has many different meanings. The qualities of being frank, open, or outspoken along with the absence’of necessity, coercion, or constraint are just some of the meanings of freedom. The quality of being exempt or released from somethingis also another definition of freedom. As much as Freedom is considered to be a good thing it also has badqualities that can accompany it. As young children Grow; they want to have more freedom as they get older. They want to have that sense of independence. They want to show off their abilities to survive on their own.
