Games and sports are an important part of education. In the past there was no provision for them in Indian schools and colleges. But now no educational institution is complete without some arrangement for different games and sports.  Games and sports have many advantages. They improve health and help in building up a good body. As games are played in the open air. the body gets plenty of sunshine and fresh air. It is a common knowledge that carbon dioxide is released by man and is taken in by trees, while oxygen is released by trees which is needed by man. The birthday of first Prime Minister Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru, 14th November, is celebrated as Children's Day throughout the country. He was reciprocated as "Chacha Nehru" by the children for his immense love towards children. This year also the Children's Day was celebrated in our school with great zeal and enthusiasm. The children themselves organized the whole function. The compound of the school was beautifully decorated with multicolored buntings. Balloons were also hanging in large number. A good seating arrangement was made for the teachers and the students. The Principal was the honourable guest at the function. After the arrival of the Principal a well organized programme started. Last Sunday, I saw a very interesting hockey match. It was played between the Khalsa School and Guru Har Krishan Public School. Mr. Dhyan Chand and Balbir Singh acted as referees. It was played at Ram Lila Grounds. A large number of students and teachers had come to see the match. The referee gave long whistles and the captains of both the teams came forward. A coin was tossed in the air. The Khalsas won the toss and chose their favourable side. Both the teams were in their proper uniforms. The Khalsa players had blue shirts and white shorts while the players of Guru Har Krishan Public School had white shirts and white shorts. The match started at 3 PM. The annual school sports day is celebrated in our school with great preparations. This day gives us a great pleasure. We are full of joy on that day The 15th December was our sports day this year As usual an interesting programme was made for the day we got printed copies of the programme. The Principal invited parents also. The Senior P.T.I, was in charge of the whole show. The sports began exactly at 10 A.M.  First of all, the athlete taking part in different events, staged a march past. The Principal of the school took the salute. Then the sports began. The first item was that of the races- of 100 metres race the 400 metres race and 880 metres race and five kilometres race the five kilo metres race was a great fun. Tea was grown for the first time in China. Tea is the most popular beverage in the world today. It is liked by the poor and the rich alike. Tea is a plantation crop. Now it is grown in large quantities in different hilly areas of India and Sri Lanka. In India, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are the major tea-producing states. Darjeeling tea is famous for its fine flavour. A tea plant is an evergreen bush, three to ten metres in height. It is regularly pruned to keep its height within one to two metres. For its cultivation, regular heavy rainfall, hot and humid weather and sloping land is necessary. Only a few buds and tender leaves are plucked from each tea plant.
