The Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the central agency of the Government of India to disseminate information on its policies, programmes, decisions and activities. The information put out by PIB goes to daily newspapers, news periodicals and news agencies as well as radio and television organizations, both Indian and foreign.   With a countrywide teleprompter network and air bag facilities, PIB reaches newspaper organizations not only in Delhi but all other parts of the country as well. No other organization in the country reaches such large number of newspaper organizations and other media. CHANDRASEKHARA VENKATA RAMAN was born at Trichinopoly in Southern India on November 7th, 1888. His father was a lecturer in mathematics and physics so that from the first he was immersed in an academic atmosphere.
