Fiona is my neighbor. She turned twelve recently and her parents held a birthday party for her. I was one of those invited. The party began at about three in the afternoon. There were about twenty of us children gathered in Fiona's house. We were all dressed in our best clothes. Everyone, especially Fiona, wore a happy smile. We gave our presents to Fiona and she happily opened them. It must really be exciting to receive all those presents. After that Fiona's mother served us soft drinks and delicious sweets. We then played some games like "Musical Chairs" and "Treasure Hunt". The winners were given prizes. At about four-thirty Fiona's mother brought out the birthday cake. It was beautifully decorated with pink and white icing. Twelve colorful candles sat in the middle of the cake. We all sang "Happy Birthday" to Fiona after which she blew out the candles and more...

It was around Diwali. We wanted to buy clothes, Diwali lights and many other items. Chandni Chowk is famous for such items. My mother and I went to Chandni Chowk. It is near the Red Fort in Old Delhi. There was lot of crowd. Everyone was pushing each other. There were traffic jams and the vehicles were blowing their horns. Street vendors were selling various items which were very cheap. Many customers were bargaining with the shopkeepers. Some poor beggars were asking for food and money. We went to a shop, where my mother bought a saree and a suit for me. She bought some artificial jewelry for me. We also bought some sweets from the famous shop of Ghantewala, From the Electrical Market we bought Diwali lights and a electriciron. We were all tired after shopping. It is true that excessive love for money which is called lust for money has caused innumerable maladies. Many relationships which are otherwise considered sacred and inviolable are broken or spoiled due to some dispute regarding money. In modern times, money is everything. If a man has money, he can have as many friends as he likes. He can buy and enjoy any luxuries which his heart may demand or cherish. A man who has money can earn more money without much work. Many politicians use money and muscle power to buy votes. Money matters in international relations. So, money is all powerful in the modern world. 

India is my country. It is a country of villages. Most people live in the villages than in the cities. There are big cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The Himalayas, the highest mountain in the world, are in the north. There are many rivers but Ganga is the longest. We have set up big industries and built dams. We grow several kinds of crops too. India is known for its lions, elephants and tigers. The peacock is the national bird of India. It is a country of great saints and sages. She has given birth to scholars like C.V. Raman, RavinderNath Tagore, Dr. J.C. Bose and Dr. HomiBhabha. The land of Upnishads, Mahabharata, and Ramayana has been the cradle of ancient civilization. Discipline is the need of the hour in every walk of life. Everything from sunshine to sunset, change of seasons, rotating of the earth, days and nights, follow a disciplined cycle of rotation. Discipline teaches us to follow the set rules of a particular institution. It leads us to co-operate with a spirit of love for each other. Discipline should be voluntary. Discipline is the secret of one's success. A nation becomes great if its citizens become disciplined.    

Discipline should be integral part of man's life. It is necessary for the personal life of man. Discipline is the most indispensable quality of life. It is in fact the greatest law of nature. It is the symbol of civilization. It is the backbone of character. Literally, it means learning a code of conduct. Discipline plays an important role in school, family, factory, office, military and nature. The life of great personalities are good example of disciplined life. A disciplined man is admired, liked and honoured in society by everyone.  

The 15th August is a red letter day in the history of India. It was on this day in 1947 that India won her freedom after nearly on early one hundred and fifty years of British rule. The Independence Day is, therefore, celebrated with great rejoicing all over the country. On this day Pt. Nehru unfurled the National Flag at the Red Fort. Henceforth it is celebrated all over India every year. On this day our Prime Minister addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. After the Flag hoisting ceremony, the National Anthem is sung. It fills the countrymen with new enthusiasm. In New Delhi, the capital of India, Independence Day is celebrated with great pomp and show. It is a public holiday. In India, cricket is popular game. In our school, many students play it while other enjoy seeing it. I am not a cricket player, but I am a cricket fan. The other day a very interesting cricket match was held in our school. It was a one-day limited over match. It was played between the team of Happy School and Our School team. We reached the school early that day. The match started at 9 A.M. The two Umpires entered the ground. They were followed by the two captains. There was a toss of a coin. We won the toss and elected to bat first. Our openers played very well. Our team made a huge score of 298 runs and lost only four wickets. After lunch the Happy School Team started batting. Their opening batsman played intelligently. But the whole team was out for 265 runs in 48 overs and more...

Last Sunday, I visited an art exhibition held in the capital. It was arranged in the famous Sahitya Kala Akademi. I went there with my friends. I am very fond of paintings. The exhibition had the paintings of many famous artists like M.F. Hussain, ManjitBawa and .Sanyal. There were many visitors to this exhibition as all these artists are very well known all over the world. Their works were on sale. The painting were costly. So, I could not buy any painting. I enjoyed seeing such fine pieces of art. I met students from the art school and made friends with them. I want to be a painter when grow up. This exhibition gave me a lot of inspiration and encouragement.

December 25th is the day of celebration and of fun and frolic. The birth of Christ is perhaps the most popular festival around the world. The dark night sky, the chilly winters all just provide the perfect backdrop for the reigning red and green colors that cheer up the entire scenery. People visit their families and arrange some of the most lavish parties. The most awaited festival, the Christmas signifies love and kindness, joy and happiness. The holiday spirit of the season in one word is - infectious!
